Re-examine embalming and restorative techniques post tissue recovery. Step-by-step practical and innovative ideas regarding the care of a tissue donor will be discussed as well as necessary supplies needed at the funeral home. Learn the importance of surgical technique during the recovery and how it can impact the embalming process. You will walk away with an understanding of how funeral service partners and tissue donation teams can best work together for the families they serve.

Kelly Romanowski, earned a Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science degree from the University of Minnesota, she worked in a Twin Cities funeral home for nearly 11 years prior to joining the LifeSource Team. She has also worked with the local transplant centers to facilitate donor organ transportation and became a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist through AATB in 2016. Kelly continually attends education sessions and seeks out process improvement ideas in partnership with funeral director partners to better support the families we jointly serve.
Melinda Van Waus is a licensed funeral director in Minnesota and an active member of the Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota Funeral Director Associations; the Arrowhead Funeral Directors Association; and is a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist. Melinda has also worked as a Tissue Surgical Recovery Technician, recovering tissue from donors who have so generously given the gift of life. She is a goal leader on the Funeral Service Committee under Donate Life America.
